Former "Formula-1" driver Tarso Marques has been arrested in Brazil.
Lent.az reports that the driver was detained on charges of "illegally possessing a luxury car." He was driving a "Lamborghini Gallardo" without state license plates in Sao Paulo.
Police stopped Marques, and during a routine document check, law enforcement officers determined that Tarso had not yet paid off the debt for the car. The amount of the debt was 239 thousand US dollars. The athlete was arrested, but it was not disclosed what procedures await him.
Marques competed in the "royal races" in 1996, 1997 and 2001. He was the first teammate of the famous Spaniard Fernando Alonso in the Minardi team. Alonso made his Formula 1 debut in 2001 and scored lower than Tarso in the individual standings: Marques finished ninth twice that season, while Alonso only once managed 10th place, which was his maximum result.
After that, Marques left "F-1", while Alonso continued his career and became a two-time world champion behind the wheel of "Renault".
