Former "Formula 1" driver Felipe Massa has demanded $82 million in compensation for losing the championship to Lewis Hamilton at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Idman.biz reports, citing "The Times", that the claim has been filed against the FIA, the governing body of "Formula 1", and the organization's former chief executive, Bernie Ecclestone.
In that race, Nelson Piquet deliberately caused an accident, as a result of which his teammate Fernando Alonso finished first. The planned accident caused the safety car to enter the track, and Alonso reached the finish line first. Lewis Hamilton finished 3rd, earning 6 points. Massa, the leader of the season, failed to score points as he finished 13th in the Singapore Grand Prix.
According to the rules in force at that time, the FIA should have canceled the results of the Singapore race. If this had happened, Massa would have become champion with a five-point difference.
It should be noted that the 44-year-old Brazilian pilot's claim is expected to be heard in London, the capital of Great Britain, in October.
