It has been revealed why McLaren driver and new world champion Lando Norris was not penalized for overtaking Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda off the track.
Idman.Biz reports that the stewards of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix justified their decision with a special statement.
"Car 4 overtook car 22 off the track. However, this was due to car 22 making several defensive maneuvers to protect its position. If car 22 had not made these maneuvers, car 4 would have passed it on the track, but was forced to go off the track to avoid a collision.
The driving standards guidelines state that if a driver is 'forced off the track,' this is not considered intentional. Although the overtake technically occurred off the track, we decided not to take further action based on the above," the statement said.
Recall that Lando Norris finished the race in third place, becoming the world champion of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
