Two-time world champion and Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has stated that the 2022 regulations have failed to achieve their main goals, such as overtaking and improving racing.
Idman.Biz reports that, according to the Spanish driver, the cars are excessively heavy and large, which has negatively affected the quality of racing.
"These regulations, which were intended to ensure stricter compliance and efficient performance on the track, have not yet lived up to expectations. Maybe it worked in the first year, but not after that. So I don't think we will miss them much.
These cars are very large and we are racing in races that are not pleasant to drive or follow due to the ground effect and ride height.
I don’t think I will miss this generation of cars. But next year we will probably go slower and we will remember these cars when we get behind the wheel of the next cars because we always want to go as fast as possible," Race Fans quotes Alonso.
Alonso also noted that during his career he has seen several rule changes, from the V10 era to the heaviest and largest cars in the history of Formula 1.
However, some team leaders disagree with the Spanish driver's assessment. For example, Red Bull team boss Loran Mekis previously stated that the current rules have created incredible races and technological advancements.
