"Qarabag" Football Club has become an official partner of the "Sports for Climate Action" initiative implemented by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Idman.biz reports that by joining this initiative, the representative of Aghdam has also become part of the UN's "Race to Zero" campaign.
"Qarabag" has supported the transition to zero carbon emissions in the sports sector, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Commenting on this important innovation, the club's president, Tahir Gozel, emphasized that joining this initiative further increases "Qarabag"'s responsibility: "Joining this prestigious initiative is not only international recognition for us, but also a great responsibility. Sports communities are a powerful means of influence, and we are ready to use this power to protect the environment. We are both happy and proud to be a part of this initiative. Our club has been carrying the name of Karabakh with dignity and great responsibility in Europe for many years. The continuous results achieved by our main team and the work done by our club are in the focus of international organizations. All this has led to "Qarabag" gaining trust and recognition in the world. In the UN initiative, we will do our best to represent both our country and the name of Karabakh with dignity."
At the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, a joint alliance of football clubs in the fight against climate change was created on the initiative of "Qarabag" Football Club. World-renowned and experienced football clubs in the field of climate change and sustainability, especially from Europe - "Liverpool", "Tottenham" (both England), "Atletico Madrid", "Real Betis" (both Spain), "Fenerbahce", "Galatasaray" (both Turkey), "Udinese" (Italy), "Porto" (Portugal), "Flamengo" (Brazil) and "Malmo" (Sweden) accepted "Qarabag"'s invitation and signed a declaration to join the alliance. "Qarabag" Football Club expresses its deep gratitude to the UNFCCC team, which highly appreciated this step, positively responded to our club's commitments and efforts, and accepted it as a member.
"Deloitte", which we cooperated with within the framework of COP29 and developed our club's climate strategy, played an important role in this membership process, as well as in the implementation of the necessary communication and documentation work.
It should be noted that by joining this platform, our club has committed to contribute to global climate action through sports. The commitments include reducing carbon emissions by at least 50 percent by 2030, reducing them to 0 by 2040, publishing annual climate reports to the public, submitting a concrete action plan within 12 months, and openly sharing climate issues with partners.
