The Polish national team is happy about Robert Lewandowski's departure.
Idman.biz reports that the 36-year-old footballer has refused to play for his country's main team after being stripped of the captain's armband.
The decision to have another footballer as captain was made by head coach Michal Probierz, who justified it with the need for changes: "Robert wanted it to be officially announced that he voluntarily gave up the armband. I said that was impossible. This is my decision."
After that, Lewandowski, who said he had "lost faith in the coach," announced that he would not play for the national team while Probierz was in charge. The striker later said that the coach had "destroyed his trust" and that what happened "hurt him a lot."
But it seems that no one will miss him in the national team. According to "Przegląd Sportowy", Lewandowski's decision was "greeted with joy" in the team - with applause and a sense of relief. This event has also increased respect for the head coach.
Probierz himself said that the national team's door is not closed to him: "I wish Robert all the best, but the most important thing for me is the national team, and it doesn't matter who coaches it. What matters is the benefit of the team."
In fact, relations with the leader in the team were really tense. In March, Lewandowski entered the dressing room and cursed his teammates and coaches, and then publicly criticized them. Other players were also unhappy with him and thought he preferred Barcelona to the national team.
It should be noted that Lewandowski scored 85 goals in 158 games for the Polish national team from 2008-2025.
