Nigeria and Cameroon are demanding the removal of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from the 2026 World Cup play-offs.
İdman.Biz reports this with reference to the "Championat" publication.
It is noted that both countries have filed an official complaint with FIFA regarding this claim.
The complaint states that the DRC national team included 6-9 players in its squad who did not have the right to play for this team during the qualifying stage. According to the allegations, these players have European passports and have not undergone the official renunciation procedure for dual citizenship, which is prohibited by DRC legislation.
It is noted that FIFA's regulations are more lenient in this matter and only require the presentation of the passport of the country the player represents. Since the Congolese players presented DRC passports, FIFA allowed them to participate. However, the Nigerian side claims that FIFA was deceived and that the DRC formed the squad by violating its own constitution.
The DRC, having defeated Cameroon and Nigeria in the final qualifying stage for the African zone, has advanced to the intercontinental play-offs, but the Nigerian side hopes that the matter will be investigated by March and that they will continue the fight for the 2026 World Cup.
