Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has made a final decision on where the Iranian national team will play its matches in the 2026 World Cup.
Idman.Biz reports that Iran had previously requested that its matches be held in Mexico instead of the United States, citing security concerns.
"As a result, the federation decided that the games could not be moved from their original locations. Such a move would require a major logistical effort from FIFA," said Sheinbaum.
Iran is scheduled to face Belgium, New Zealand, and Egypt in Group G of the World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup will be held this summer in three countries - the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
