Legendary former "Milan" player Gennaro Gattuso has opened a new chapter in his career by becoming the head coach of the Italian national team. He has already started performing his duties.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, a press conference was held in Rome on June 19, where the 47-year-old Italian specialist was officially presented as the head coach of the "Squadra Azzurra".
Gattuso replaced Luciano Spalletti as the head coach of the national team and was tasked by the Italian Football Federation to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup.
According to "La Gazzetta dello Sport", a 1-year contract has been signed with Gattuso. The contract specifies the coach's salary, which will be slightly less than one million dollars for this period. In addition, the contract provides for the possibility of extending it for another two years.
It should be noted that the Italian national team lost to Norway (0:3) and won against Moldova (2:0) in the first matches of the World Championship qualifying round. Gattuso's "Squadra Azzurra" will play its first matches on September 5 against Estonia and Israel.
