Former goalkeeper of the Iranian national team and the "Esteghlal" and "Tractor" football teams, Rashid Mazaheri, was detained at the border while trying to flee the country.
Idman.Biz reports, citing Iranian media, that the former football player tried to illegally cross the western borders of Iran by changing his appearance. It is reported that he offered a bribe to border service employees and was detained while trying to leave the country.
Although the football player's wife said that he was being held in solitary confinement, government sources announced that Mazaheri was in the general prison section.
An investigation is being conducted against the former goalkeeper on charges of bribing a government official, carrying out propaganda activities against the national security of the country in a state of war, and attempting to illegally cross the border.
The main reason for Mazaheri's detention is said to be a video he shared against the government on March 6.
