FIFA President Gianni Infantino has arrived in Baku to attend the U-15 World Championship and festival, which is being held for the first time in football history.
İdman.Biz reports that the head of the global football body was welcomed at the airport by AFFA President Rovshan Najafov and Vice-President Elshad Nasirov.
Expressing his satisfaction with his visit to the capital, Infantino shared his expectations regarding the upcoming tournament in a post on his Instagram account:
"I was warmly welcomed by AFFA President Rovshan Najafov in Baku. I wish all participants the best of luck. I am eagerly looking forward to a magnificent week where football will once again unite the world."
The first matches of the tournament, which will kick off on October 24, will take place at 09:00. The vast majority of the games will be hosted at the newly constructed football complex in Hovsa.
The opening ceremony, however, will begin at 19:00 at the Baku Crystal Hall. Here, the first match of the tournament will also be played, featuring the national team of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that Infantino was also in Baku at the end of September, where he personally inspected the progress of the preparations for the World Championship.
