FIFA has announced on its official website the extension of permission for foreign players and coaches to unilaterally suspend contracts with Russian and Ukrainian clubs.
According to "Report", citing the FIFA Press Service, the rule has been extended until June 30, 2026.
FIFA allowed foreign players to suspend contracts with Russian and Ukrainian clubs in the summer of 2022.
"Due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has today decided to extend the term of Annex 7 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players until 30 June 2026.
This extension provides continued regulatory support for players, coaches and clubs affected by the conflict and reflects FIFA's continued commitment to protecting the stability and integrity of the football system in exceptional circumstances.
The decision follows extensive consultations and constructive dialogue with football stakeholders, including FIFA member associations, leagues, clubs and player representatives," FIFA said.
"Under the extended provisions, foreign players and coaches will retain the right to unilaterally suspend their employment contracts with clubs affiliated to the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) or the Russian Football Union (RFU) until 30 June 2026.
To exercise this right, they must notify their clubs in writing by 1 August 2025. This deadline ensures that such decisions are made in a timely and transparent manner, helps prevent abuse and provides legal certainty for all parties.
FIFA will continue to monitor the Russia-Ukraine conflict closely and stands ready to adapt its regulatory approach if necessary.
FIFA expresses its support to all affected members of the football community and will continue to work in coordination with stakeholders to uphold the principles of legal certainty, fairness and solidarity," the statement posted on FIFA's website reads.
