The Ghana Football Association (GFA) plans to bring in a new head coach for the national team shortly before the start of the 2026 World Cup. The candidacy of three well-known Portuguese specialists is being considered for the position that became vacant after Otto Addo's resignation.
Idman.Biz reports that the list of candidates includes former coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Fernando Santos, Carlos Queiroz, and Paulo Bento. All three specialists have extensive experience at the international level, especially in World Cups.
Santos is currently unemployed after being dismissed from the Azerbaijani national team last September due to poor results. Carlos Queiroz last coached Oman, and Paulo Bento coached the UAE national team. It is reported that GFA is also considering a short-term contract option to create stability in the team before the tournament.
It should be noted that the Ghana national team will compete with England, Panama, and Croatia in Group L of the 2026 World Cup. The team will play its first game of the tournament against Panama on June 17.
