"It was a very difficult game." Sport24.az reports that these words were said by Azerbaijani national team footballer Elvin Cafarquliyev.
The wing defender shared his thoughts on the match in which they won against the Sierra Leone team in the penalty shootout in the "FIFA Series – 2026" international tournament:
"It was an exciting match. We didn't expect it to be like this. We knew the opponent was a strong team. But we didn't expect it to be this much. They fought well in both halves. They were in very good physical shape. But thank God, we won. I congratulate the whole team."
Cafarquliyev spoke about the importance of the tournament:
"We must carry this belief into future matches as well. The victory was important and gave us confidence. There is great motivation in the team. The guys are very enthusiastic. We intend to win victories with this motivation."
According to the player, the main goal is to rise to League C in the UEFA Nations League:
"We believe in ourselves. We want to return to our place."
