Roma's 33-year-old forward Stephan El Shaarawy announced on social media that he will leave the club in the summer.
Idman.Biz reports that El Shaarawy has been playing for Roma since 2016.
"There are places that become home, even without you realizing it. And one day you realize it's much more... it was people, emotions, life. For me, the last 10 years have been full of all this. I arrived here with dreams, ambitions and a strong desire to prove myself. I leave with a calm heart.
Full of memories of our battles, great joys, but also difficult moments that helped me grow on and off the field. In this environment I found true friendships, sincere respect and a sense of belonging that goes beyond football. I have always defended this shirt with the utmost sincerity, dedicating all my energy to it every day. Together we have written important pages, experiencing emotions that will remain unforgettable, such as winning an international tournament, which brought us even closer together and which I will always cherish.
Over time, responsibility has increased and wearing the captain's armband has become more than just a role: it was a great honor and one of the greatest expressions of esteem I could ever receive. An honor that I will always keep in my heart. Like all stories, this one had a beginning and today it comes to an end. It was a special year, sometimes difficult, but that's part of football; it doesn't change who I am or the effort I put in.
The derby will be my last home game at the "Stadio Olimpico". There is no better ending to demonstrate everything I have always looked for: loyalty, respect and dedication, but above all gratitude. I thank the club for allowing me to grow both as a person and as a footballer. I thank my teammates with whom I have shared every emotion. I thank the staff for their work and daily support. And a special thanks to you, the fans, because you have always made me feel like one of you. I'm leaving, but a piece of me will remain here. Because some stories never really end, they just change shape. I will always be grateful to this club and especially to this city that has given me so much. Thank you, Rome. With love, Stefano", - the footballer wrote.
