The English Football League (EFL) has announced that the "Championship" play-off final may be subject to a change in time due to a disciplinary case involving "Southampton".
İdman.Biz reports that the scandal arose after allegations that a member of "Southampton's" analytical staff secretly filmed "Middlesbrough's" training session and photographed tactical preparations. The incident reportedly occurred before the first leg of the play-off semi-final. Based on the results of the two matches, "Southampton" eliminated "Middlesbrough" and advanced to the final.
A hearing by an independent disciplinary commission will be held no later than May 19. A decision will be announced as soon as possible after reviewing the submitted materials and evidence. (efl.com)
Nevertheless, the EFL has stated that it is working to ensure that the "Championship" play-off final will be held at Wembley Stadium on May 23 as originally planned. However, the organization has warned fans that the outcome of the disciplinary process could lead to changes in the game schedule.
The possibility of "Southampton" being excluded from the play-offs is also being discussed in the English media. If such a decision is made, the club may lose the chance to be promoted to the Premier League. In a softer scenario, the time or location of the final could be changed.
It should be noted that "Southampton" is scheduled to face the English football club "Hull" in the final. The winning team will gain the right to play in the Premier League next season.
