"Matches against the national teams of Portugal and Bulgaria will be an experience for young Azerbaijani football players."
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Aykhan Abbasov, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team under 21, in an interview with "Report."
He spoke about the games that U-21 will hold as part of the European Championship qualifying round: "Difficult games against the national teams of Portugal away and Bulgaria at home await us. Both rivals do not need an introduction. Portugal was a participant in the last European Championship among football players under 21. There is a football player from the "Levski" team, which faced "Sabah" in the UEFA Conference League, who may appear in the Bulgarian U-21 national team in the match against Azerbaijan. I want to say that both national teams have a squad composed of good football players. Games against such teams will be an experience for young Azerbaijani football players. As you know, our young football players have little international experience. But we also want to achieve something, and we have to start somewhere."
Abbasov said that even younger players were involved in the team's camp: "Today, when we look at our squad, we can come across football players born in 2007. Unfortunately, we don't have much choice. But I trust every player who is called up. I believe that in the current season we will come across young football players who show themselves well in the Premier League or I League, and they will be useful to the team."
It should be noted that U-21 will gather for training camp on September 1. The team will face Portugal in Barcelos on September 5 at 22:30 Baku time, and Bulgaria in Baku on September 9 at 18:00.
The national team, which is in Group B, will leave for Portugal on the night of September 2-3.
