The winners of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship in rapid and blitz disciplines, organized among men and women, have been determined. According to Sport24.az, the competition held at the Republican Chess Center lasted 4 days.
In the women's competition, based on the results of two tournaments, Turkan Mammadyarova took 1st place with 13 points. Melek Ismayil, who had the same number of points, finished second based on additional indicators. Laman Hajiyeva finished third with 12 points. Narmin Abdinova and Ayan Allahverdiyeva, who scored 11.5 points each, shared 4-5th places.
In the men's competition, Rauf Mammadov, one of the leaders of the national team, won the title. R. Mammadov, who also became the Azerbaijan champion in classical chess this year, surpassed all his rivals with 14 points. Murad Ibrahimli, who scored 1 point less than the champion, took second place. Read Samadov and Aydin Suleymanli, who scored 12.5 points each, finished the competition in 3-4th places, respectively. Mahammad Muradli completed the top "five" with 11.5 points.
At the closing ceremony of the Azerbaijan Championship, medals and diplomas were presented by the chief judge of the competition Lutfiyar Rustamov, the representative of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation Raul Guliyev, and the director of the Republican Chess Center Elshan Mammadov.
It should be noted that 32 male and 20 female chess players competed in the championship. The winner was determined based on the sum of rapid and blitz results. The prize fund of the national championship among men and women amounted to 10 thousand manats. Chess players who take the first three places in both the men's and women's tournaments will be sent to the World Championship.
The World Championship will be held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, from December 25-31.
