The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has filed a complaint with the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission regarding comments made by the 14th world champion Vladimir Kramnik about American chess player Daniel Naroditsky.
İdman.Biz reports that Naroditsky, 29, died in October of this year. The official cause of death has not been given.
Kramnik had previously suspected the American chess player of cheating and wrote on social media after his death: "I shouted about Dani's alarming problems and his 'friends' only tried to cover it up."
The commission will also review statements by Czech chess player David Navara. Navara had previously admitted that he suffered from severe depression and considered suicide due to Kramnik's posts about cheating.
"The appeal arises from concerns in the chess community regarding Kramnik's repeated public accusations against grandmasters Daniel Naroditsky and David Navara.
The complaint describes Kramnik's conduct over approximately two years and refers to several public statements and materials that FIDE considers to be related to possible violations of harassment and defamation of character.
The complaint also includes statements from people close to David Navara and Daniel Naroditsky. These issues will now be investigated in accordance with the established procedures of the Ethics Commission," the statement published on the FIDE website says.
Possible sanctions against Kramnik will be announced later.
