The last fight of the Russian "eagle" took place on October 24, 2020, at UFC 254 held on Yas Island near Abu Dhabi (UAE). His opponent was Justin Gaethje, the interim UFC lightweight champion. The fight ended with a second-round submission victory for the Russian athlete. This was Nurmagomedov's 29th victory in his career. After the fight, Khabib announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.
