Oleksandr Usyk, the undefeated 39-year-old Ukrainian currently holding the WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles, has expressed his confidence that his former opponent and current friend, Briton Anthony Joshua, will become the undisputed world boxing champion in 2027.
Idman.Biz reports that the Usyk-Joshua fight ended with a unanimous decision in favor of the Ukrainian.
"God gives me and Joshua a test. But if we pass this test, he will say: "Okay, you are ready, move to the next level." Our story with Joshua was God's plan: "Okay, in 2021 there will be a fight between Usyk and Joshua, a rematch in 2022, and then Anthony and Usyk will train together. And by 2027, Anthony will be the undisputed champion. Good idea. With Usyk's help."
I don't think so, but I know that [Joshua will be the undisputed champion]. Yes, it is possible. AJ, you can become the undisputed champion. In 2027, AJ will be the undisputed heavyweight world champion. People often told me: "Usyk, you are small, this is not possible. And so on and so forth." And I replied: "We'll see." I pray, I don't ask. That's why I say to myself: "I will work hard, if possible, I will do it." But I think this is very likely," Usyk said.
