Azerbaijani fighter Tofiq Musayev responded to the allegations leveled against him after his victory over Chilean Ignacio Bahamondes at the UFC Fight Night 271 tournament in Seattle. Two issues discussed on social media - touching the cage and a possible headbutt - were the focus of attention.
Idman.Biz reports that our representative stated that both episodes were unintentional and occurred in the natural flow of the fight.
Musayev said the following about touching the cage:
"My hand touched the cage during the fight, it was not intentional. Before the fight, the referee warned us not to grab the cage. I also tried to follow the rules."
Regarding allegations of a headbutt, our athlete clarified as follows:
"I had no intention of hitting him with my head. I was just trying to stay close to my opponent and control him under the chin with my head to prevent him from using painful techniques. There was no foul here."
Tofiq Musayev also noted that his opponent Bahamondes did not raise any objections to him after the fight, and there were no disagreements between them.
Let us remind you that this fight went down in history as Musayev's first official victory in the UFC and ended with a unanimous decision by the judges. He continued the fight with a broken hand. The fight between Musayev and Bahamondes was selected as the "Fight of the Night", and therefore our compatriot received a large cash prize.
