Members of the Azerbaijan Sports Veterans Public Union visited Agajan Abiyev, one of the famous figures of the country's sports, at his home on his birthday. Sport24.az reports that during the meeting, Abiyev's contributions to the development of Azerbaijani sports, education and the scientific environment were recalled.
Born in 1937, Agajan Abiyev served as the rector of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sports for 28 years and was a deputy of the National Assembly for three terms.
He also headed the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation for many years, served as the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee and held high positions in international boxing organizations. For his activities, he was awarded the orders of "Glory", "Honor" and "For Service to the Motherland."
He was wished good health and a long life at the meeting. Fuad Aslanov, the bronze medalist of the Athens 2004 Olympics, said that a national tournament among teenagers in honor of Agajan Abiyev will be held at the Baku Boxing Center on December 15-19, 2025.
