These words were spoken by Nijat Huseynov, a boxer who became the Azerbaijani champion among adults for the first time.
The athlete, who competes in the 55 kg weight category, said that the final match was difficult:
"In the final, I faced my closest friend, my teammate. I am upset that I defeated him. I didn't want him to lose," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The boxer, who won the right to participate in international tournaments, said that he would represent the country properly:
"I hope that I will prepare well for important tournaments, win a license for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics, and move towards the Olympic gold."
It should be noted that about 170 boxers from 31 teams competed in the seven-day championship.
