American MMA fighter Isaac Johnsson has passed away at the age of 31 after competing in the "Matador Fighter Challenge" Muay Thai tournament in Chicago, USA.
Idman.Biz reports that Johnsson lost consciousness at the end of the final - third round of the heavyweight fight and was immediately taken to the hospital. Despite medical intervention, it was not possible to save the athlete.
According to the "Daily Mail", Johnsson died approximately three hours after being taken to the hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and a forensic examination has been ordered.
Tournament organizer Joe Goyita said he was deeply saddened by what happened:
"Isaac Johnsson lost consciousness at the end of the fight. The medical team there gave him first aid and took him to the hospital. Today I was informed that he had died. I can't find words to express what I'm feeling right now. We will get more information when the medical report is published."
