The current UFC welterweight (up to 77 kg) champion, 34-year-old Russian Islam Makhachev, has been named MMAFighting's Fighter of the Year for 2025.
Idman.Biz reports that Valentina Shevchenko took second place in the ranking, and another Russian, Petr Yan, took third place. Merab Dvalishvili and Joshua Wang also made the top five.
Makhachev currently has a 16-fight winning streak in the UFC. In total, he has 28 wins and one loss. In his last fight at UFC 322 in New York City, Makhachev faced Australian Jack Della Maddalena and won by unanimous decision. With this victory, Makhachev became the promotion's welterweight champion and the 11th two-division UFC champion in league history.
