UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has issued a statement following reports that he was summoned to court in a domestic violence case.
Idman.Biz reports that Topuria's ex-partner, Giorgina Badell, filed a formal complaint with the Spanish National Police regarding threats and harassment on social media.
"Yesterday, a media outlet published a false news item claiming that I had been summoned to testify in a domestic violence case. This news was later changed because it was false. I have never been summoned to testify for such a reason, although of course, I would do so voluntarily if necessary.
I am obliged to attend court, but the summons is only for a family and administrative matter relating to my daughter's travel outside of Spain, whom I have not been able to see for four months despite numerous attempts.
I accept the costs of publicity, but this does not justify the dissemination of unconfirmed false information, the distortion of facts or the disclosure of matters relating to a minor in need of protection," Topuria wrote on social media.
