The undefeated 29-year-old Spanish-Georgian Ilia Topuria, current UFC lightweight title holder, has expressed his desire to fight Russian Islam Makhachev, the UFC welterweight champion.
"The ideal choice for me would be a welterweight fight with Makhachev, then I could win a third belt. Another great choice would be a fight in the 70-77 kg weight class for a special new belt for the best pound-for-pound fighter," Topuria said in a broadcast on blogger Adin Ross's YouTube channel.
The Spanish-Georgian fighter made his professional mixed martial arts debut in April 2015. He began competing in the North American Matador League in October 2020. Ilia has 17 wins, only two of which were by decision.
