The "Heydar Aliyev Cup-2026" international tournament among junior boys and girls boxers under 17 years old has started in Baku. 19 fights took place on the first day of the competition, which was attended by 8 countries.
8 athletes of the Azerbaijani national team started the tournament held at the Baku Boxing Center with a victory. In our team, Nihad Mammadli (48 kg) won against his teammate Almurad Karimli (5:0), Amid Alakbarov (63 kg) against Ismail Aslanli (3:2), and Mahammad Rustamov (63 kg) against Amin Hasanzada (4:1).
Ismail Nasirzada (52 kg) defeated Matvey Shumyakov (Estonia, 5:0), Mirtahir Ahmadli (52 kg) Jalqas Abrashov (Kazakhstan, 4:1), Ali Jamalzada (57 kg) Islam Orujov (Kazakhstan, 4:1), Ibrahim Badalli (57 kg) Abrorbek Tengelov (Uzbekistan, 5:0), and Ziraddin Rustamov (80 kg) defeated Nurislam Amankeldi (Kazakhstan, 3:2).
There will be 29 matches on the second day of the competition.
It should be noted that along with the Azerbaijani national team, teams from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova and a team of neutral athletes are competing in the competition. At the tournament with the participation of 185 boxers, winners will be determined in 14 weight categories for boys and 9 for girls. The final matches of the "Heydar Aliyev Cup-2026" will be held on May 7.

Nagi Safarov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, who spoke next, emphasized that holding international competitions in our country has become a tradition. He spoke about the importance of the tournament, wished success to the participants and a pleasant stay in Baku to the guests.
Pavlo Vasilinchuk (Ukraine), supervisor of the "Heydar Aliyev Cup-2026", expressed his gratitude to the Organizing Committee and expressed his belief that there will be intense fights.
After the National Anthem was played, the competition was declared open.
