A fight between former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor and former UFC titleholder Max Holloway is as close as possible to happening.
Idman.Biz reports that this was stated by influential Canadian journalist and insider Ariel Helwani.
"The sides are currently in the final stages [of negotiations]. Everything [will be signed]. Something terrible has to happen for this fight not to happen on July 11th. It's very close," Helwani said.
The Irishman has not fought in mixed martial arts since losing to former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier by technical knockout (leg injury) in the first round at UFC 264 in July 2021. His professional record is 22 wins and six losses.
Max is 34 years old. Holloway made his professional debut in September 2010. His mixed martial arts record includes 27 wins, 14 of them by stoppage, and nine losses.
