Eduard Mammadov, three-time world champion in WAKO kickboxing, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation (AKF), and a living legend of Azerbaijani kickboxing, is among those awarded the "Progress" medal for his sporting achievements and contributions to the development of sports.
Eduard Mammadov shared his impressions with İdman.Biz after being awarded the prize.
"Of course, it is a great pleasure for me to receive such an award directly from the head of our state. When I heard that I was being awarded and that Mr. President himself would present it, I couldn't sleep at night with joy. By the way, it was thanks to him that I was hired into the internal affairs bodies more than twenty years ago, and I am currently working there as a lieutenant colonel. At that time, even as a champion, I worked as a simple security guard at the Baku Entertainment Center," said Eduard Mammadov.
He also emphasized the services of the national kickboxing federation.
"This is not just my award - it is primarily the result of the work of our federation. As a veteran athlete, and more recently as vice-president, I try to help the development of our sport and contribute to the achievement of new successes. Thanks to the leadership of the federation, kickboxing shows higher results every year, which cannot but please us," added the vice-president of AKF.
