UFC President Dana White has commented on the retirement of Russian former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Idman.Biz reports that Nurmagomedov ended his career in 2020.
"We had a Muslim champion, and he went on a tour of Muslim countries. He competed in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and money poured into his pockets.
He made so much money that he didn't need to fight anymore. And then his father died, which had a big impact," White said.
It should be reminded that Nurmagomedov fought his last fight on October 24, 2020, at UFC 254 held on Yas Island near Abu Dhabi, UAE. His opponent at that time was interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. The fight ended with the Russian athlete winning by submission in the second round. This victory was the 29th victory in Nurmagomedov's career. After the fight, Khabib announced the end of his MMA career.
