Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor has married his longtime partner Dee Devlin in a historic Vatican church.
İdman.Biz reports that the "Irish Independent" newspaper reported about it.
According to the newspaper, the 37-year-old mixed martial artist and 38-year-old Dee Devlin, who has four children, chose the "Santo Stefano degli Abissini" church located behind St. Peter's Basilica on the way to the Vatican gardens for the ceremony.
This church is considered one of the oldest churches in the Vatican and was built in the 5th century. The "Santo Stefano degli Abissini" church is an active church decorated with unique 15th-century frescoes.
According to the newspaper, Vatican sources said that the church was allocated for a private ceremony. However, earlier this week, the Vatican's chief press secretary, Matteo Bruni, told the "Daily Mail" newspaper that he was unaware of the wedding preparations and that the wedding had not been confirmed. A source close to McGregor confirmed to the newspaper that the wedding would take place.
Conor McGregor and Dee Devlin have been dating since 2008. They met in a nightclub when McGregor was 21 years old. At that time, Conor still dreamed of becoming a fighter and Dee Devlin worked as a waitress. They announced their engagement in August 2020, shortly before Dee Devlin's 33rd birthday. The couple has four children: three sons and one daughter.
According to "The Sun" newspaper, the 37-year-old mixed martial arts star and his fiancé have long dreamed of taking vows in the Sistine Chapel, but the Vatican has banned weddings there. This forced the couple to reconsider their plans and hold a more modest ceremony.
According to the British "Daily Mail" tabloid, Devlin continues to openly support McGregor after he was found guilty in a civil lawsuit of sexually assaulting a woman named Nikita Hande in 2018.
Although the accused claimed the relationship was consensual, the victim had to be paid more than £200,000 in compensation.
McGregor's last fight was in the summer of 2021 at UFC 264 against American Poirier. The fight ended in the first round with the Irish athlete breaking his leg. McGregor is currently serving an 18-month suspension for violating anti-doping rules, which expires on March 20, 2026.
A few days ago, former UFC champion in two divisions, Conor McGregor, announced his desire to fight Russian Islam Makhachev.
