The official opening ceremony of the boxing tournament dedicated to the memory of Agacan Abiyev, Professor, "Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports", "Honored Scientist", holder of "Shohrat", "Sharaf" and I degree "For Service to the Motherland" orders of the Republic of Azerbaijan, took place on December 16 at the Boxing Center.
Idman.Biz reports that at the opening ceremony of the tournament, which is co-organized by the Baku City Youth and Sports Department and the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, athletes, coaches and referees of the "Golden Glove", Ganja, Sumgayit, "Dinamo", "Tahsil", "Neftchi", AHTIA and MOIK teams entered the arena to the sound of marches.
The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, and the dear memory of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and territorial integrity of our Motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Farhad Hajiyev, Vice President of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Chingiz Huseynzade, Advisor to the President of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation Samir Huseynov, Rector of the Azerbaijan Sports Academy Fuad Hajiyev, Chairman of the "Sports Veterans" Public Union Zemfira Meftakhetdinova and international referee Elnur Mammadli made speeches.
The tournament was symbolically declared open by Agacan Abiyev by striking the "gong".
The opening ceremony continued with an artistic part. Then a video dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Professor Agajan Abiyev was shown.
Competitions started after the opening ceremony. The tournament will last until December 19.
