Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson has strongly criticized the UFC event to be held at the White House.
İdman.Biz reports that the event will take place on June 15.
"I don't think the White House should be turned into a spectacle arena. Now they're turning it into a real clown show, which may be of interest to circus lovers. There's a reason we go to these entertainment events, but they should be held in places like that.
I don't think the most respected places in our country should be turned into spectacle arenas, clown shows. I'm not going to watch it on TV... I'm a little sad about that. I'm glad I worked for the UFC and contributed to the development and legitimacy of mixed martial arts.
The UFC organized tours for me to India, Mexico, and various countries, and I acted as an ambassador for mixed martial arts there. So I contributed to the popularization of traditional martial arts. But turning it into a spectacle, a show, a clown show, a circus at the White House... It's an injustice to mixed martial arts.
But again, everyone has their own opinion. But it makes me a little sad that the UFC is coming to the White House, so to speak, to tarnish it. This place needs to be treated with respect. This is not the thing to do, it's beyond my understanding," talkSPORT quotes Henderson as saying.
