The national team of Azerbaijan Karate Federation in Ashihara karate style successfully performed at the World Championship of the Ashihara International Karate Organization (AIKO) held in Antalya, Turkey.
Idman.Biz reports that the national team, represented by a team of 18 people, won 8 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals at the prestigious competition, which was attended by more than 900 athletes from 20 countries, winning a total of 11 medals and taking 3rd place among world countries in the team score.
Among adults, Kenan Guliyev and Ulfat Veliyev won gold medals, and Ibrahim Khalilov was awarded the title of "most technical fighter" for his high technical performance and rose to the highest step of the honorary podium.
Among children, Orkhan Shahmammadov secured the first gold medal for our team in the 12-13 age group, 40 kg weight category. Mehdi Khalilov was awarded first place in both fighting and kata.
Alakbar Mirzayev, who made one of the most memorable performances of the competition, won a gold medal and a championship belt by winning both Ashihara karate and "full contact" fights.
