Former NBA player Damon Jones allegedly used information about Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James to bet on games involving the California team.
İdman.Biz reports this with reference to "The Athletic".
According to reports, Jones, who had access to the Lakers' locker room, passed on non-public information about the player's (LeBron's) status.
Sources say that Jones shared information that James would miss the February 9, 2023, game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Jones allegedly sold insider information or attempted to profit from it through his alleged partners Erik Ernest and Marvis Fairley. A league source added that James himself was unaware that Jones was passing on information about him.
In addition, Jones is reportedly also suspected of passing on insider information about other top Lakers players. Specifically, before the January 15, 2024, game, one of the accused, Jones, allegedly placed a $100,000 bet against the Lakers after receiving information about a player's injury and a possible reduction in his playing time on the court. The game ended in a victory for the California team, and the player played as usual. After that, Fairley demanded that Jones return the $2,500 he paid for the information.
Jones was not an official Lakers employee, but he had access to the team's locker room, planes, and hotels because he worked with James. He previously played with LeBron on the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005-2008.
