Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Rihad Ibrahimli (110 kg), who won a gold medal at the U-17 European Championship held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, aims to become a world champion.
The athlete stated this in an interview with "Report".
The wrestler said that the semi-final match was more difficult:
"The competition went well, thank God I became a champion. My first opponent was from Belarus. I won against him with a score of 5:1. In the 1/4 final, I defeated my Polish opponent with a score of 11:2. The semi-final match was difficult. Because my Ukrainian opponent was strong. Nevertheless, I won and reached the final. In the decisive match, I defeated the Bulgarian athlete with a "touch" and became the European champion."
He also revealed his next goal:
"My next goal is to win a gold medal at the World Championship. I hope that I will prepare well and realize my wish."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers finished the U-17 European Championship with 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. Abdurrahman Huseynli (45 kg) and Rihad Ibrahimli (110 kg) became European champions. Ali Nazarov (60 kg) won a silver medal. Gurban Majnunov (48 kg) and Nijat Yeylagaliyev (80 kg) took third place.
