Not only our juniors, but also our under-23s and seniors have been winning the European champion title for several years.
"Report" reports that this was stated by Namig Abdullayev, a member of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, in a statement to journalists.
"It is gratifying that our athletes, who win in all age categories, raise our flag high and sound the National Anthem in international arenas," said N. Abdullayev.
He emphasized that athletes are always surrounded by attention and care by the Wrestling Federation: "The Federation has created all conditions for U-15 and U-17 freestyle wrestlers in recent years. Training camps have been organized in various regions for international competitions. And the achievements are obvious."
N. Abdullayev noted that zonal competitions for 15-year-olds have been held for the last 4 years: "Athletes who are national champions are selected by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to participate in the European Championship. It is in these competitions that the future European, world and Olympic champions emerge."
The committee member congratulated the wrestlers who showed high results, wished them success in future competitions and said that he was sure that they would achieve the same result in the world championship.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team among juniors has become the European champion. The Azerbaijani team won 6 medals, performing successfully at the continental championship. At the responsible competition, 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals were won. With this result, our national team, which scored 151 points, became the European champion again. Ukraine took second place with 144 points, and Georgia took third place with 116 points.
Let us remind you that under the leadership of senior coach Asgarxan Novruzov, coaches Vahid Mammadov and Yashar Aliyev, Ravan Hasanzade (48 kg), Ruslan Alizade (55 kg) and Said Pashayev (92 kg) won gold, Hasan Hasanov (60 kg) won silver, and Ramal Mirhuseynov (51 kg) and Hakim Tagiyev (110 kg) won bronze medals.
