Two Azerbaijani wrestlers have become prize-winners at the ranking tournament held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
"Report" informs that 5 members of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team took to the mat on the third day of the competition.
Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg), although he defeated Daniyar Kalenov from Kazakhstan with a score of 5:1, could not resist Yuri Lomadze from Georgia in the 1/4 finals – 0:10. Ruslan, who eliminated Juan Aak from Norway (6:4) in the consolation match, did not give Giorgi Chkhikvadze from Georgia any chance in the bronze medal match – 9:0.
Hasrat Jafarov (72 kg), who tested his strength in the upper weight, defeated Serbian world champion Ali Arsalan (2:1) and Kazakh Merey Maulitkanov (5:3) until the semi-finals. Hasrat, who lost to Uzbek Abdulla Aliyev with a score of 3:5, did not compete for the third place due to a wrist injury.
Islam Abbasov (87 kg) defeated Hungarian Istvan Takacs with a score of 3:1 in the first stage. The 1/8 final match ended early. Marcel Sterkenburg from the Netherlands was injured, so Islam advanced to the next stage. Abbasov, who eliminated Exos Mukubu from Norway (1:1) based on the first point principle, lost to Hungarian David Losonczi in the semi-finals – 0:4. Islam was stronger than Serbian European champion Aleksandr Komarov in the bronze medal match – 5:2.
Beka Kandelaki (130 kg), although he defeated Korean Seungchan Lee with full advantage (9:0), lost to Hungarian Dariusz Vittek in the 1/4 finals based on the last point principle (3:3), and did not compete in the consolation match with Hungarian Koppani Laszlo due to injury.
Sarkhan Mammadov, who is in the same weight category, eliminated US wrestlers Aden Attao (9:0) and Kurtni Freeman (4:3) and advanced to the semi-finals. Sarkhan, who lost to Hungarian Dariusz Vittek by "touch" one step away from the final, lost to Hungarian Koppani Laszlo with a minimal difference (1:2) in the bronze medal match.
Thus, our Greco-Roman wrestlers started the ranking tournament with 2 bronze medals.
