The failure of Azerbaijani female wrestlers to win a medal at the World Championship does not mean they are weak.
Idman.biz reports that Aslan Aghayev, the former head coach of the Azerbaijani women's national team, said this in his statement to "Report" while talking about the team's performance at the World Championship held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
He said that he does not consider the female athletes' failure to win awards at the World Cup as a tragedy: "Such cases happen in sports. The wrestlers who participated in this competition were young. Speaking of young people, I can say that we often win medals in youth competitions. This is a very good thing. I am sure that new championships, silver and bronze medals will come in the World and European Championships soon. In women's wrestling, there are sometimes athletes who get married and end their careers. In this case, it takes a little time to bring women's wrestling to the desired form. But I still believe that the results will be pleasing in the near future."
It should be noted that Azerbaijan was represented at the World Cup by Jala Aliyeva (57 kg), Gunay Gurbanova (59 kg) and Birgul Soltanova (62 kg) under the leadership of acting head coach Toghrul Asgarov and coach Hasrat Mammadov. All three of them finished the fight without any awards.
