The 2026 World Wrestling Championships will not be held in Bahrain on the dates originally planned.
Idman.Biz reports that the United World Wrestling (UWW), together with the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Wrestling Federation, have announced the postponement of the competition. The tournament was scheduled to take place in Bahrain from October 24 to November 1.
The decision was caused by the geopolitical situation in the region, ongoing uncertainty around the Gulf region, regional stability and risks related to international travel. The UWW stated that the safety of athletes, officials, delegations, partners and fans is a top priority.
The statement notes that making the decision in advance, rather than in the final stages of preparation, is a more responsible step. This will allow for the identification of a possible new host country for 2026 and the professional preparation of the competition.
The UWW added that updates on future dates and hosting will be announced later.
