Our men's table tennis team, like the women's team, lost to the Russian team with a score of 0:2 in the team final of the III CIS Games.
Immediately after the final matches, an employee of Idman.biz, who was seconded to Gabala, had the opportunity to speak with head coach Mikhail Timofeev.
- What can you say about the team's performance? What was missing for the victory?
- To be honest, I am very upset, because if it weren't for some moments, the game could have ended with completely different results. For example, Onur Guluzade had a lot of bad luck in several episodes. As a result, our player could not change the course of the game and the opponent won.
Adil Ahmadzade had almost no chance, because his opponent was objectively stronger. But if Onur had won, the situation would have been completely different — because our players are very strong in doubles and I am sure that they could have put up a worthy resistance to the Russians. In short, we were a little unlucky.
- Looking at the team's overall performance, is it possible to expect medals?
- Of course! I am very hopeful that Onur, as one of the most talented table tennis players in both Azerbaijan and Europe, will show himself even more in the future. In doubles, Onur and Adil are capable of winning a medal. I would like to note that Onur is a participant in the "Hops" program — this program is aimed at developing the most talented tennis players in the world. Therefore, my expectations are not in vain.
- Can the current young generation achieve greater success than your generation?
- They are already achieving it! Onur was born in 2011, and Adil in 2008. I am sure that they still have great success ahead of them!
