UEFA has changed the disqualification rules for yellow cards in the 2026/2027 Champions League season.
İdman.Biz reports that, according to the new rules, a player who receives four yellow cards from the main stage of the tournament onwards will have to miss the next match.
In previous seasons, three yellow cards resulted in a one-match suspension. Under the new rule, a player will be suspended for one match after receiving their fourth, sixth, eighth, and tenth yellow cards.
The rule is in effect from the first round of the main stage until the end of the round of 16. After the round of 16 is completed, the yellow cards accumulated by players are reset and do not carry over to the semifinals.
Thus, players will not face the risk of missing the final due to the accumulation of ordinary yellow cards received in the semifinals. However, disqualification for a red card remains in force.
The same rules apply to the UEFA Europa League and Conference League.
In the first two rounds of the Champions League, five players have received two yellow cards. If they receive two more warnings, they will face a one-match disqualification.
