The Ukraine national hockey team has qualified for the top division of the World Championship for the first time since 2007.
Idman.Biz reports that the team advanced to the top league by taking second place in Group A of the First Division, held in Sosnowiec, Poland. The Ukrainian team finished the tournament with 10 points.
In the final round, Poland's 1:2 overtime loss to Lithuania officially secured the Ukrainians' promotion to the elite division. Poland finished the tournament with 8 points.
The winner of the competition, the Kazakhstan national team, also secured a place in the elite division with 13 points.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian national team last played in the strongest division of the World Championship in 2007.
The elite division games of the 2027 World Championship will be held in Düsseldorf and Mannheim, Germany. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland.
