"Negotiations are currently underway to create a professional continental cycling team in Azerbaijan."
This was reported to Idman.Biz by the sports director and head coach of the Azerbaijani cycling team, Kazakh specialist Vladimir Bushanski.
The specialist stated that negotiations are ongoing and all issues are expected to be resolved in the near future.
"The most important thing is that everyone is showing great interest in the project, and all issues on the agenda can be resolved. The main goal is for the project to be designed for at least one Olympic cycle so that both coaches and athletes can properly plan the preparation process and set specific goals for themselves," Bushanski said.
He noted that if a continental team is created, it is planned to involve foreign cyclists in the squad.
"Undoubtedly, the basis of the team will be Azerbaijani cyclists. However, foreign athletes may also be involved in certain areas. For example, a mountain stage specialist or a sprint expert can strengthen the team. Overall, the creation of such a team will be a positive step for the development of young Azerbaijani cyclists," he added.
It should be noted that earlier in Azerbaijan, a continental cycling team called "Baku Synergy Cycling Project", which showed successful results in the international arena, was operating.
It is worth recalling that Musa Mikayilzade, Nofel Nuriyev, Ali Gurbanov, Shahin Eyvazov, and Maxim Trendelev represented Azerbaijan in the "Baku-Khankendi" cycling race.
