Islam Makhachev, the UFC lightweight champion (up to 77 kg), expressed his desire to hold a UFC tournament in Dagestan.
Idman.Biz reports that he proposed the "Dynamo" stadium in Makhachkala as a possible venue for the tournament.
"We must definitely hold a UFC tournament in Dagestan. If the UFC really decides to hold a tournament here, we will need the "Dynamo" stadium. The stadium has a capacity of over 20,000 spectators, and about 30,000 fans usually attend UFC tournaments. I think this would be ideal," Makhachev said.
Makhachev currently has a 16-fight winning streak in the UFC. In total, he has 28 wins and one loss.
The Russian athlete recently competed in the UFC 322 tournament in New York against Australian Jake Della Maddalena. The fight was for the UFC lightweight championship title and ended with Makhachev's victory by unanimous decision.
