According to the words of the head of the Belarus National Olympic Committee, Viktor Lukashenko, the son of double Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, figure skater Alexander Plushenko, considered the possibility of competing on behalf of the Belarus national team. Sport24.az reports that he made a statement to the TASS agency about it:
“Yes, there were negotiations with Plushenko. But in the end, he chose another country. We have always supported the Russians, so we would be happy to support him as well.”
