The next matches of Azerbaijani athletes at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam judo tournament have ended.
Idman.Biz reports that Rashad Yelkiyev, competing in the 66 kg weight category, lost to Brazilian Willian Lima with waza-ari (golden score) in the 1/8 finals and stopped competing in the tournament.
Ahmad Yusifov, who competed in the 60 kg, performed more successfully. He defeated Belgian judoka Jorre Verstraeten with a waza-ari score in the 1/4 finals and advanced to the semifinals.
In the semi-final, Yusifov faced Russian representative Ayub Bliyev and lost. Thus, our athlete won the right to compete for a bronze medal.

Azerbaijani athletes Ruslan Pashayev and Balabay Agayev have stopped competing at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam judo tournament.
Idman.Biz reports that Ruslan Pashayev, competing in the 66 kg weight category, lost to Spanish representative Adrian Nieto Chinarro with hansoku-make (automatic defeat due to the opponent's violation of the rules) in the 1/8 finals and was eliminated from the competition.
In the same stage, Balabay Agayev, in the 60 kg weight category, also lost to Turkish athlete Salih Yildiz with a yuko score (a score gained advantage over the opponent) in the first match and stopped the fight early.
It should be noted that two more of our judokas, Rashad Yelkiyev and Ahmad Yusifov, continue to compete in the tournament.

Our athlete won the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam judo tournament.
Idman.Biz reports that Azerbaijani judoka Ruslan Pashayev, competing in the 66 kg weight category, defeated Hamad Matlaei, a representative of the UAE, in the 1/16 final stage.
He won with the osaekomi-waza technique (a technique to win by holding the opponent on the carpet on his back and keeping him under control) and advanced to the next round.
