Lionel Messi stops playing for Inter Miami after his father's death

Argentina team captain Lionel Messi has suspended his playing career with the US MLS club after his father's death.

Sport.Biz reports that Lionel Messi's father, Jorge Messi, passed away on August 8 at the age of 68 after a long illness in a hospital in Rosario.

The 39-year-old footballer left Inter Miami's camp to attend his father's funeral in Argentina. The farewell ceremony was held in a closed format in Rosario on August 9.

It is not yet known when Messi will return to Inter Miami's camp.
